Introduction

Over the past decade, point-of-care ultrasound has been proven to be an invaluable tool at the bedside. It has been shown to reduce times to diagnosis as well as improve patient care and satisfaction. In addition, with the evolution of technology, ultrasound machines are getting smaller and now fitting into the palm of your hand. Given its utility and portability, it is not surprising that many medical schools are embracing this diagnostic modality.

However, many point-of-care resources available are targeted towards physicians with significant amount of clinical experience. Our goal at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine was to develop a resource that is student-oriented. We thought the best way to do this was to have actual Loma Linda medical students who have gone through ultrasound training in their curriculum write up the chapters in the book with my oversight. This way the material is presented from a medical students point of view. Truly a book made BY students FOR students! We hope you enjoy this eBook and find it a useful resource as you explore the world of point-of-care ultrasound.

Sincerely,
